Mob fury on National Highway in Bengal after cyclist dies in accident

Kolkata, Apr 29 (UNI) Angry locals burnt tyres and blocked National Highway 2 in Sreerampur of West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Saturday after a cyclist was run over by a dumper, police said.
The victim, a 56-year-old woman, was cycling at the Pearpur crossing when she was crushed by the speeding vehicle. She died on the spot.
Incensed over the incident, locals blocked the highway, burnt tyres and vandalised a traffic police kiosk.
The mob raised slogans against the police and alleged that such accidents were happen ingrepeatedly in the area.
The blockade has led to a huge traffic snarl on the busy highway.
The Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been deployed and security reinforcements were rushed to the spot.
