London, Apr 22 UK Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Justice Dominic Raab said on Friday that he had decided to resign following an investigation into allegations made against him of inappropriate behavior towards civil servants.
In late February, Raab said that he would resign if the allegations of his improper behavior we reprove accurate.
“I am writing to resign from your government, following receipt of the report arising from the inquiry conducted by Adam Tolley KC. I called for the inquiry and undertook to resign, if it made any finding of bullying whatsoever. I believe it is important to keep my word,” Raab said on Twitter.
Tolley’s investigation report confirmed that Raab treated government employees with aggression and bullied them.
“In reaching and implementing this management choice he [Raab] acted in a way which was intimidating, in the sense of unreasonably and persistently aggressive conduct in the context of a work meeting. It also involved an abuse or misuse of power in a way that undermines or humiliates [subordinates],” the report said.
However, the inquiry did not find anything specifically illegal in Raab’s behavior that would violate the UK equality law, which protects people from discrimination in the workplace. There port also noted that eight formal complaints, which cover Raab’s terms as foreign, justice, as well as Brexit secretaries, were examined during the investigation.
In November, Raab received three complaints from his former employees accusing him of “creating a culture of fear” and bullying his subordinates. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak subsequently approved Raab’s request to investigate the matter, saying it was “the right course of action.” In January, at least 24 UK civil servants reportedly filed formal complaints against Raab.
