NEW DELHI: Twitter is busy introducing features and settings that allow users to have a comfortable experience. Keeping the same in mind, Twitter has now launched a safety feature called Safety Mode. This new feature will autoblock accounts sending harmful or abusive tweets to a user. With this new feature in place Twitter aims to reduce the burden on people dealing with unwelcome interactions. The social network giant started rolling out the feature after feedback from a small group of people. The new feature is available on iOS, Android and Twitter.com.
Here’s how the new safety feature works
The new Safety Mode feature will temporarily block accounts for a period of seven days for using potentially harmful language — such as insults or hateful remarks — or sending repetitive and uninvited replies or mentions.
After the feature is turned on, then Twitter will assess the likelihood of a negative engagement by considering both the Tweet’s content and the relationship between the Tweet author and replier. “Our technology takes existing relationships into account, so accounts you follow or frequently interact with will not be autoblocked,” said Twitter.
“Authors of Tweets found by our technology to be harmful or uninvited will be autoblocked, meaning they’ll temporarily be unable to follow your account, see your Tweets, or send you Direct Messages,” added Twitter.
Twitter showcased the Safety Mode feature for the first time in February at the company’s Analyst Day presentation. Apart from this, Twitter also introduced features like hiding replies, letting people limit who can reply to their posts and showing a warning before you tweet a harmful reply that helps in reducing abuse on the platform.
