The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday that the situation in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, is normal after recent mob violence targeting foreign students. The Indian embassy is assisting Indian students.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned that there were incidents involving foreign students, not Indians, over two weeks ago, causing concern among Indian students. About 17,000 Indian students study in Kyrgyzstan, mostly in Bishkek.

The Indian embassy contacted Indian students to ensure their safety, set up 24×7 helplines, and addressed the issue with local authorities and university officials. Since it is exam time, many Indian students will return home during the summer vacation after their exams.

Direct flights from Delhi to Bishkek operate twice a week, along with flights via Almaty. The embassy is committed to helping students in every way possible. The mob violence began after a fight between locals and foreign students at a hostel on May 13, leading to protests over perceived lenient treatment of the foreigners involved.
