Subhas Sarkar, Minister of State for Education, informed the Rajya Sabha that in the past five years, six institutions were granted deemed university status by the Central government. Additionally, 140 private universities were established during this period. Sarkar mentioned that both deemed and private universities must adhere to norms set by regulatory bodies like the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Medical Commission (NMC), Dental Council of India (DCI), among others. He stated that these bodies’ guidelines are available on their websites. UGC reported no major violations of its guidelines by these institutions and regularly interacts with them to ensure compliance.
