Yesterday in Parliament, discussions began about changing the laws in Jammu and Kashmir. They talked about making amendments to the rules about reservations and how the region is organized.
A member of Congress, Manish Tewari, asked why elections haven’t taken place in Kashmir yet. He wants to know when the elections for the Jammu & Kashmir assembly will happen.
One bill, called the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, aims to change the rules about reservations for certain groups in jobs and educational institutions.
Opposition members wanted answers about these bills, but the Home Minister said he’ll reply in detail later.
During the discussion, the Home Minister mentioned the importance of having one Prime Minister and one flag for the country.
An MP from AIMIM, Asaduddin Owaisi, opposed the bills, saying they could harm democracy.
Another member from the Indian National Congress, Jasbir Singh Gill, raised concerns about the law and order situation and the economy in Kashmir.
The discussions will continue tomorrow because the session ended for the day.”
