The Parliament approved a new law called the Provisional Collection of Taxes Bill, 2023. This law allows immediate application of tax changes for a short time period, concerning customs and excise duties. It replaces an older law from 1931 but keeps the same rules. The Union Finance Minister mentioned it’s a small technical update to remove old colonial elements from laws and make them fit for modern India. Seven members discussed this in the Rajya Sabha.
