Mumbai, Apr 22 Red hot after winning three games on the trot, Mumbai Indians would like to grab the momentum by its neck against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium here on Saturday evening.
“The main thing is that we just keep getting better each game and build on that momentum,” Jason Behrendorff said while talking about the synergy within Mumbai Indians.
Statistically, the head-to-head record between the two sides, is in favor of Mumbai by a whisker. Both played 29 matches, out of which Mumbai won 15 and lost 14.
In 2019, Kieron Pollard’s 31-ball 83 overpowered KL Rahul’s unbeaten 100, laid the foundation for Mumbai to chase 133 in 10 overs with 16 runs per over while at the crease. No wonder, the mighty West Indian was Mumbai’s leader and now their batting coach.
Tomorrow too, the fans are expecting some serious cricketing action and lots of drama – the matchup between Rohit Sharma and Arshdeep Singh, and the thrills and tribulations of the Mumbai versus Punjab encounter.
Mumbai are currently on a three-match winning streak after succumbing to defeats in their opening two matches. They are placed just above PBKS with six points.
On the other hand, Punjab are currently placed seventh in the standings with six points after registering three wins and as many losses.
After the hard-fought defeat against Bangalore on Thursday, Punjab would look to bounce back with a win over the hosts.
Not only the team, but pacer Arshdeep would also like to make a mark in the match as he is just one wicket away from completing 50 wickets in the IPL.
The 24-year-old has picked up 49 wickets in 43 matches at an average of 25.08 and a strike rate of 8.35.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh would look to continue his remarkable form against Mumbai at the Wankhede after playing an impressive knock of 41 runs off just 27 balls against Bangalore.
The 29-year-old has scored 120 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 133.33.
Talking about tomorrow’s match, Behrendorff said: “I think the team’s gelling together really nicely at the moment. Everyone has had an impact in each of the games so far, so that’s a very xciting thing for us.”
On the Impact Player rule, he said: “I think the Impact Player rule is a great opportunity to giveothers game time. It all comes down to the substitution. There must be really good communication between the management and the players, and if everyone is on the same page,it can work quite well.”
