Explosion in Northwest Pakistan Kills 6 Policemen, Injures 22 During Anti-Polio Campaign Security Duty
Six policemen lost their lives, and 22 others were injured in a blast near a police vehicle in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The officers were on their way to secure an anti-polio campaign when an improvised explosive device planted at the roadside targeted them in the Mamund area of Bajaur district.
The death toll might rise as five policemen are critically wounded. Pakistan began a week-long nationwide anti-polio vaccination campaign for over 42 million children aged five or below.
All casualties were police personnel, and ten seriously injured cops are being moved to Peshawar for better treatment. Emergency measures were initiated in local hospitals.
Authorities are investigating the incident to apprehend those responsible. The caretaker Chief Minister condemned the attack, emphasizing that despite such cowardly acts, the police remain resolute in protecting the public.
