Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien was suspended from the rest of the winter session in the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Indian Parliament) due to what was called ‘bad behavior’. During the session, O’Brien entered the well of the House and continuously shouted slogans, demanding a discussion on the recent security breach in Parliament. The Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, got angry and asked O’Brien to leave immediately because of his disruptive behavior.
The uproar began when opposition members wanted to discuss the security breach incident by putting aside other House business, but their requests were rejected. They also demanded that the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, be present in the House. Dhankhar criticized O’Brien for his disruptive actions and then named him, ordering him to leave the House. The session was adjourned until noon.
When the House resumed, a motion was passed to suspend O’Brien for the rest of the session, following a proposal by the Leader of the House, Piyush Goyal. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned again amid protests from the opposition members, who continued to push for a discussion on the security breach.
