Foreign Minister Diana Mondino had a positive phone call with Spanish Ambassador to Argentina, Maria Jesus Alonso, amid a diplomatic crisis caused by Argentine President Javier Milei’s remarks.
During a speech in Madrid, Milei accused Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s wife of being “corrupt” and claimed socialism causes poverty.
In response, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares recalled the Spanish ambassador to Argentina and demanded a public apology from Milei. He also summoned the Argentine ambassador to address the issue.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sanchez considered leaving office after a court investigated his wife for alleged corruption, but the case was based on media reports and was appealed by prosecutors. Sanchez decided to stay in office despite the scandal.
