The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has given approval for a $27 million grant to enhance healthcare services in Kiribati, focusing on creating climate-resilient facilities. The project aims to address the pressing need for health facilities that can withstand disasters and operate efficiently in terms of energy. It specifically targets the 63,000 residents of South Tarawa.
With a focus on women’s health and climate resilience, the project aims to improve healthcare facilities, offer better services, implement infection control measures, and provide programs for sexual and reproductive health. Additionally, it plans to construct a new hospital in Betio that can withstand climate challenges while expanding its services. Furthermore, the project aims to develop national health service standards in Kiribati.
