New Delhi 29 Nov The government has decided to continue helping the poor and women by extending the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) for five more years. This means that families identified under this scheme will receive 5 kilograms of free food grains every month. Around 81 crore Indians will benefit from this, and the poorest families will continue to receive 35 kilograms of free food grains every month.
Moreover, the government has approved a new plan to provide drones to women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Around 15,000 selected women’s SHGs will receive drones from 2023 to 2026. These drones will be used to offer farming services to farmers on a rental basis for agricultural purposes.
Additionally, the Cabinet has also given the green light to the terms of reference for the 16th Finance Commission. This Commission will decide how central taxes will be shared between the central government and the states, as well as among the states. The Commission is expected to submit its report by October 2025, and decisions based on that report will be taken by the central government later.
