Manila, Oct 31 The Philippine police confirmed on Tuesday that six people were killed in Monday’s elections to vote for village leaders, bringing the total number of election-related deaths to 19 since the start of the poll period in August.
The police said the six deaths occurred on Monday in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, in the southern Philippines.
The victims included candidates, their relatives, and supporters.
John Rex Laudiangco, spokesperson for the Commission on Elections, said the poll body also tallied 19 confirmed injuries from Aug. 28 to Oct. 30, the election day.
The commission and the police described Monday’s polls as “generally peaceful,” despite the”isolated” violence.
